MOROLLINI: typical Apulian snack – ITALY – In the “Best Advertising” competition

The work presented in this post was made by the students of the 5th E class of the primary school of the “Istituto Comprensivo Renato Moro” of Taranto and was selected to participate in the “The Best Advertising” contest.
The work is the synthesis of the packaging design path of a typical Apulian snack that has all the characteristics to be a biological and sustainable product in its production chain.

Children move closer to nature

Pupils at Gilwern Primary School have been excited to welcome some new friends – they are ponies!

The ponies are being looked after by the children, under the guidance of a local vet, while they are looking for a ‘forever’ home.

Opportunities like this one give pupils a chance to understand the natural world more fully and increase their confidence with dealing with other creatures.

In addition to this the school has also further developed a pond area to allow pupils to find out about water based animals such as newts, frogs and insect larvae while enjoying the health benefits of working outside.

Of course, this is possible only because of our close proximity to the Brecon Beacons National Park, an area of protected wild land. You can find out more about the park by following this link:

Regeneration – A best Practise from Wales

Regeneration projects within Wales help with the following Global Goals:

8 – Good jobs and economic growth: by reducing unemployment.

11 – Sustainable communities: By allowing activity in communities that are in a ‘post-industrial’ phase.

The Welsh Assembly Government oversees the development of these projects. For the last 50 years, since coal mining and iron-smelting came to an end here, efforts have been made to improve the lives of people living in the towns and cities that had previously relied on these industries. This work continues to this day, and will be needed for many years to come.

Today on the webpage of one of our local newspapers it has been posted an interesting article concerning our project. Our two years teaching and learning experiences; the exchange of “best practices” on eco-sustainaible themes, lived also through the mobilities, have been shared with a community of people that needs to be encouraged in changing their own lifestyle. Thanks to this project Taranto’s citizenship is considering how important is to grow up in new generations the awareness in protecting and respecting the environment since the youngest age of its own population.
For Taranto it’s just a starting point!

The Business Model Canvas

In  the last week  of February 2018 the penultimate mobility of the Erasmus + G.R.E.E.N. in Europe took place in the city of Sofia in Bulgaria.

In this period, principals and teachers participated in a short but intense training at the headquarters of the Junior Achievement of Sofia dedicated to economic-entrepreneurial education at school. We talked about Business Plan and Sustainable Development. In particular, all teachers had the opportunity to know a model, properly a canvas, on which they can test the business models in the first phase conception. This is called the Business Model Canvas and is a useful tool to start talking about entrepreneurship since the early years of secondary school.

Business Model Canvas is a visual chart with elements describing a firm’s or product’s value proposition, infrastructure, customers, and finances.”

One of these is the dedicated canvas for non-profit businesses, useful for testing sustainable business models. All these tools can be used without any copyright problems as long as the source is mentioned (Creative Commons  license).

The Business Model Canvas No-Profit

This model is very useful for introducing the basic concepts on which a business is based, even in the first grade of school.

We ourselves have tested the model in a practical activity of great interest.

The Junior Achievement in Sofia organized a Challenge. Groups of teachers participating in the ERASMUS + project, together with several students of a high school in Turin (present in Sofia to carry out an educational project, financed by the European Community, in the entrepreneurial field) collaborated to find a business model on a specific topic. The theme, proposed by the Municipality of Sofia, was that of public mobility and atmospheric pollution due to private mobility.

Innovation Challenge – Instruction


The phases of the Challenge:

  1. Organization of groups (possibly no more than 6 members)
  2. Delivery of the theme and copies of the Business Model Canvas (for both private and non-profit activities).
  3. Group discussion with the possibility of using any source of inspiration (books, magazines, web searches)
  4. Schematic development of the business model
  5. Presentation of the model to all the participants and to the jury

In this case the models were evaluated and commented by a person in charge of the Sofia Mobility Department.

The Business Model Canvas is useful in the educational field also to reconstruct the business model of existing economic activities.

It was a wonderful experience and very useful for all of us.

A PACKAGING….EXPERIENCE!

One of the classes of our 10 years old students of the primary school today have worked together with a group of students of the low secondary school (13 years old)  to realize something very interesting!

The “packaging” of a product!

The children of the primary school, after having studied the “process” that leads to the biological production of a typical  apulien food product, have thought how to “package” it !

They made a lot of drafts and written some procedures underling the importance of using “recycled” materials!

At the end, with the help of the low secondary school students, their tutor during the activity, they made a lot of different “packaging”proving their “entrepeneurial skills”!

The experience has been great!

And now…. we are starting  working  on the “advertising poster”!

CREATIVE …..ADVERTISING IN ACTION

Thanks to our Erasmus+ project, students of the Primary School are exploring with great interest the “secrets” of the advertising process!

With the help of one “expert” in “Communication and marketing”, mother of one of the pupil involved in the project, the young 10 years old learners in Taranto are  testing their “creative” abilities in producing “storylines” and “storyboards” . It’s a wonderful experience!
